Between Sun & Shadow introduces a powerful set of Traits known as Carving. These Traits allow Adventurers to manipulate elements, energy, people, and even time and space. Carving was inspired by the magic system found in Brandon Sanderson's Mistborn series.
There are 16 Carving Traits divided into four main categories. Each Carving Trait allows a character to manipulate one specified "thing" – fire, light, emotions, space, etc. More powerful effects can be created by Charging (a new special Action) before attempting the feat.
Space Carving, for example, allows Adventurers to teleport themselves and others. Without a Charge, a GM might allow a character to Test to teleport a few feet away, or the character could cause something or someone else teleport a few feet. If the character Charges for several Actions, she could teleport herself or something else a further distance, or could teleport several things a short distance.
